We love love love teaching people all about quilting and patchwork and offer a range of classes including multi level quilting classes for all skill levels.
A quirky class is not your typical group class. Our class sizes are kept small to optimise your time with our tutors and each student is valued and encouraged to explore their creativity in a supportive and engaging learning environment. Our customers are at the heart of everything we do so our classes embody a strong sense of community, and a commitment to holistic development.

Quirky Q Hire
Level up your quilting game and unlock a new skill. Our in-house Longarm Hire Program allows you to drive a Bernina Q20 and finish all your quilt works in progress just like you always imagined.
Q20 Basic Orientation
The gateway into our longarm hire program!
This is a hands on orientation of the Bernina Q20 on both a sit down table and a 10 ft studio frame. You will get maximum hands on time and learn all you need to know to get started on your longarm journey; from loading your quilt onto the frame, to basic free motion quilting techniques. Plus, once you’ve completed the basic Q20 Orientation class you are invited to hire a long arm machine and get all your own quilt tops made into quilts!

Quirky Project - Bella FPP Expansion Skills
21 February 2026
This class is designed to help you expand your foundation paper piecing skills to create the foundation pattern pieces in the expansion pack patterns created by Elissa Ziccardi of Quilting Elissa. It is recommended that participants have some experience with foundation paper piecing techniques but it's not essential. Note that you may need to complete the project outside of the allocated class time.

Quirky Project - Sunset Ridge Backpack
28 March 2026
An introduction to Bag Making with Pre-Printed Pieces. Learn the basics of bag making using pre-printed fabric panels. This beginner-friendly class covers working with foam, interfacing, and bag hardware. You’ll complete one bag during the class, and a second bag is included on the panel all ready for you to cut and sew at home. A fabulous introduction to bag construction with professional results!

Quirky Project - Radical Rope
11 April 2026
Do you collect 2.5” strip rolls but have no idea what to do with them? This hands-on class will show you how to turn those gorgeous strips into something both beautiful and useful! Using the Clover Fabric Tube Maker, you’ll learn how to create fabric “rope” and transform it into rugs, placemats, bowls, or bags. We’ll cover tips and tricks for starting and finishing your project, as well as how to shape your creations.

Quirky Project - Quilt Your Own Adventure with Jodie
7 & 28 April & 19 May 2026
With Jodie and the book 'Quilting Adventures' by Amanda Carye, this design-it-yourself quilt class puts you in the driver’s seat. You’ll decide the size, layout, and block combinations to create a one-of-a-kind quilt. You’ll explore pattern design, fabric selection, and layout planning, culminating in a final quilt design that is uniquely your own.

Quirky Project - HNK Hexies
23 May 2026
Learn how to use Hugs n Kisses “leave-in” English Paper Piecing papers in this hands-on class. Whether you prefer hand stitching, machine stitching, or quilting your pieces directly, you’ll learn several techniques for working with these innovative papers. The class will finish by placing your completed design onto a notebook cover or another small project, giving you a practical and creative result to take home.

Quirky Guest - Quilted Coat with Lorena Uriarte
28 + 29 May 2026
Join expert Lorena Uriarte to learn how to turn quilted fabric or a finished quilt into a cosy coat. The workshop covers pattern selection, the impact of quilting and wadding on drape, cutting pieces (including collar, hood, & pockets), sewing techniques, bias-binding seams, and closures. You'll finish with a nearly completed quilt coat, with any remaining binding to finish at home. Requirements: Your quilt must be quilted prior to class. Plus you will need to choose a quilted coat pattern that suits you and your body type. Recommended patterns are: Tamarack Jacket by Grainline Studiosm (as per the class image), Chore Coat by Patchwork & Poodles, Elemental Coat by Crinkle Dreams, and Wildwood Jacket by Helen’s Closet.

Quirky Project - Intro to Thread Painting
13 June 2026
Thread Painting is a fun way to create one-of-kind designs by adding detail and texture with threads in various colours, weights and materials. Join Quirky Q-munity expert Kim to learn this free-motion embroidery technique. Using embroidery threads and a beautiful Panel designed by Australian artist Natalie Jane Parker you will play with colouring in the panel and turning it into your very own masterpiece.

Class FAQ's
How do I book?
Classes can be booked online or in-store. Booking a class is super easy. To book online head to our class booking page link in the menu bar. Choose your class, add your details and pay. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We can also book you over the phone or instore so pop in or give us a call on +61 401 864 688.
How much does it cost?
The class fees are priced per session and are for tuition, they do not include the materials needed unless it is stated.
Why do I have to pay upfront?
We engage a variety of internal and external tutors and because class spaces are limited bookings are essential. Pre-payment is required to secure your place and make sure we can continue to create an exceptional learning experience.
What does my class fee cover?
Class fees are generally for tuition only, and you will be given a list of materials required for the class unless otherwise stated. We sell everything you need for your sewing or quilting classes with starter packs available. Please ask us for details if you are unsure what your class fee includes.
How many classes do I need to attend?
Our classes are designed as standalone classes although some classes are multi-day/part. You may not finish your project in class and feel that you need to come back for extra support to complete it, this can be done by booking an additional one on one coaching class or you may feel confident enough to finish it by yourself at home.
Our coaching is on an as requested basis which means you can book as many or as few coaching sessions as you wish. You may not finish your project in one coaching session but you can choose how and when you need extra support to finish your project.
Is there a more personalised learning experience?
Yes! One on one coaching is available and is a great way to focus on a specific project or skill. It's your project at your pace!
What if I don't have a sewing machine?
Sewing machines are available for use during coaching classes only – conditions apply. Please have a chat with us.
What do I bring to class?
You will need to bring your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies (scissors, pins, thread etc) and any material requirements for your project.
I’m a beginner, what class is best for me?
For absolute beginners we recommend our sewing coach, where you can benefit from one on one personalised tuition from experienced, professional and friendly teachers! For beginner quilters we recommend our beginners quilting classes where you can complete a simple project that will give you foundational quilting skills and boost your confidence.
Are the classes the same every month?
No, some classes will be the same every month; however we do have some one off classes. We advertise our classes on facebook and via our mailing list, join our mailing list to stay up to date or like us on facebook or follow us on instagram.
What if these times don’t suit me?
If the times don’t suit you please contact us and we will try to accommodate your needs or put you on our waiting list for a future offering.
What if there is something specific I want to learn?
If we don’t offer something that you want to learn feel free to contact us to find out if we can help. We love a good challenge so feel free to ask us the tough questions!
Cancellation Policies
Before booking please give our class cancellation policies a once over. To make it easy, we’ve listed them below.
Coaching Classes
If you need to cancel your class and you give us more than 72 hours notice we will be happy to reschedule you or give you a store credit for your class fee. If you cancel or reschedule within 72 hours you forfeit your class fee. Flexible cancellation policies may apply for customers who are unable to attend classes due to symptoms linked to Covid-19. Any refunds or store credits will be at our discretion.
Single and Multi Day Group Classes
If you need to cancel your class and you give us more than 4 weeks notice we will be happy to give you a store credit for your class fee. If you give us less than 4 weeks notice we won’t refund you, unless we can find someone to take your place. Flexible cancellation policies may apply for customers who are unable to attend classes due to symptoms linked to Covid-19. Any refunds or store credits will be at our discretion.
Multi Day Classes
If you miss a class we can offer you one catch up coaching class at a 50% discount (up to a maximum of 2 hours). If you miss additional classes you will need to book in for a catch up coaching class at full cost.
Quirky Club Sewcial Sewing
If you need to cancel your booking and you give us more than 1 weeks notice we will be happy to reschedule you or give you a store credit. If you cancel or reschedule within 1 week you forfeit your payment. Flexible cancellation policies may apply for customers who are unable to attend classes due to symptoms linked to Covid-19. Any refunds or store credits will be at our discretion.
Events & VIP Night bookings
If you need to cancel your booking and we can find someone to take your spot we will be happy to give you a store credit for your entry fee. If we are not able to fill your place won’t refund you. Any refunds or store credits will be at our discretion.
